To our Caris Healthcare team members,

The recent challenges regarding COVID-19 are overwhelming. While this situation is new, I’d like to remind you that infectious disease control and emergency preparedness is something we do every day at Caris Healthcare. I wish I could say I was amazed or surprised at the excellent job every Caris team member is doing in this challenging time, but that would be a misstatement. Each one of you do, and continue to do, amazing things to care for our patients and families. The ways you go above the call of duty are too numerous to count.

The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) President and CEO recently wrote a Call to Action for hospices regarding COVID-19. He writes, “There has never been a more important time to be ambassadors of the kind of person-centered serious illness care that our country is going to need. Indeed, hospice and palliative care are going to be crucial resources to help treat and care for the hundreds of thousands or millions of Americans who are going to be impacted by COVID-19.”

Our communities need your leadership, your composure, and your guidance. As hospice professionals, you have always been the calm amidst the storm. You helped patients and families navigate situations they never thought they would face. You provided peace and comfort during the most difficult times in a person’s life.

Banach’s Call to Action asks hospice providers to lean in, communicate your needs, and practice self-care. I ask you to do the same. He writes, “This moment, this crisis, is horrible. And yet, it is also our time to show our mettle… So, now’s our time to step up, to lean in, and to be as large as this moment.”

In these past weeks, I have already seen your mettle, your resiliency, and your determination to ensure our patients receive compassionate care, when and where they need it most. Your positive impact will be larger than this moment.

The challenges stemmed from COVID-19 is providing an opportunity for others to see what so many already know – that you are World Class in every way. It is an honor to work alongside you.
