Norman McRae, founder and managing partner of Caris Healthcare, has been named chairman of the board of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), the nation’s largest membership organization representing end-of-life care providers.
“It’s an honor to lead this organization of professionals who dedicate their lives to providing comfort and dignity to families during their most difficult times,” said McRae. “Our shared goal is to expand access to quality, person-centered care to more patients in every area of the country.”
McRae, who has more than 30 years of experience in hospice care, founded Caris Healthcare in 2003 with the goal of providing exceptional hospice care not only in metropolitan areas but anywhere there is a need. Caris currently has locations in five states.
Founded in 1978, the NHPCO’s members include local hospice and palliative care providers, networks serving large regions of the United States, and individual professionals. Based in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, NHPCO represents the interests of its members and the general public with legislative advocacy that helps to enhance and expand access to care that addresses holistic health and the well-being of communities.
“NHPCO thanks all the new and existing board members for their dedicated service on behalf of our nation’s hospice and palliative care provider community as well as the millions of patients and family caregivers that benefit from the care that our diverse membership provides,” said NHPCO President and CEO Edo Banach. “Our board members come from programs that vary in size, structure, and service area and represent that wide range of organizations across the country that share our common goal of leading person- and family-centered care.”
