Volunteers Help Caris Representative Bring the River to the Residents
SUMTER, S.C. — As COVID-19 makes it necessary to enact strict social distancing policies, the resulting isolation can lead to loneliness for health care facility residents. As a result it is crucial for providers to be attentive not only to their patients’ physical care but also to patients’ emotional and mental wellbeing. Caris Healthcare staff go above and beyond to ensure that a high standard of care is maintained for residents in all respects.
In the current public health landscape, planning fun and creative events provides a much-needed break from isolation and an opportunity to socialize safely.
Caris Representative Jennifer Hudson arranged an event for patients at National Healthcare Corporation (NHC) in Sumter, S.C. to safely go fishing — with appropriate social distancing protocols in place — in the facility parking lot. With the help of two volunteers, Hudson and the Caris Healthcare team brought in a trough with 30 bream fish for NHC residents to catch and release.
“We wanted to allow patients to get outside, have a great time, and enjoy a fun activity,” Hudson said. “We loved seeing the joy that it brought our patients and we will continue to plan other fun and engaging activities to provide them with the best experience possible.”
Caris Healthcare appreciates Jennifer Hudson and our volunteers for the organization of these creative and meaningful experiences. Caris Healthcare thanks its entire staff for its continued dedication to the compassionate and graceful care of its patients during these difficult times.
